When you think that becoming a teacher is merely a job which only care about lesson plan, students’ understanding, and students’ score, it can be right but it is kind of wrong. Why? Because teacher not only hold the responsibility on students performance in class and their own performance as teacer because they also need to be responsible in students’ behaviour and also the effect that will occur if they do a misbehaviour in public.
            Don’t you believe that? I mean, when you see a brawl done by students in the street, a school name will be most likely to be associated rather than the parents’ name right?. Eventhough they are not fighting in sake of the school purpose but a girl for example, the name which will be more associated is still their school. For example, you may have seen a news like “A brawl between students’ High School X and High School Y” rather than seeing something like “ A brawl between A’s son and B’s son”. The school will be the one which is firstly to be put in a news or magazine, and it means that the school is the one that get the blame, the embrassment, and the bad reputation. If a school get all those things, a teacher as one of the component of the school will surely get to be responsible since they will be judged as fail in educating their students.
            Well, that’s only an example because we won’t talk about that in this post. It’s just a big example to show that teacher also should be responsible in students’ behaviour as a product created through learning in your class. Phew~ becoming a teacher is a tough job, isn’t it?
            Now, let me drag you to a other kinds of students’ violence since violence doesn’t always means a literal fight. This kind of violence sometimes not being seriously considered because it does not involve physical harrassment. This violence is verbally used. The example is when you ever call your friend a pig because they are fat, or has big nose, or nerd, or stupid even only for a joke. It is considered as bullying. Even you just make it only for a joke, does not mean it applied to the recipient of those bad names right?
Sometimes, this kind of bullying missed to be solved seriously because people think it will not make people die just because being called fat. However, when you see this problem thoroughly, there are a lot of case of depression and suicide because of this bullying type. Thus, as a teacher we should act fast and aware in order to prevent those thing in our classroom.
Verbal bullying is basically happen in various types of circumstances. When you are too smart, you’ll be bullied, too nerd, also bullied, too ugly, won’t miss to be bullied, or even too fat, too pretty, too cool, too different. Well, can you see that sometimes kids are just too creative since they can simply make any kinds of condition of individuals as a potential source of bullying. Anyway, if it’s only a joke and both parties accept it, it won’t be problematic. The thing is, when it is become a serious problem and cause depression and suicide, then a teacher should play their role.
Sometimes, this kind of bullying missed to be solved seriously because people think it will not make people die just because being called fat. However, when you see this problem thoroughly, there are a lot of case of depression and suicide because of this bullying type. 
Public or Private? In this case I would like invite you for a small brainstorming activity. If you are a teacher, what will you do in order to solve a verbal bullying case? Will you do public or solve it personally with the person related to the case?
Public in this case means that since this case can be only a few parts of a whole big formation of bullying case over the school. Thus, you will choose to talk about it in public to let everyone know that this kind of case is highly not tolerated and thus needs to be stopped. However, the minus points of this type, you will let the people directly involved in the case get the embarassing situation since they can be both victim or the actor of bullying and it may hurt either their pride or their self-esteem.
In the other hand, if you go private you will just invite the students related to the case personally and try to have a kind of mediation to solve the problem and give warning to the students in order to stop those kind of bullying action. However, other students will feel that they still can secure if they do it anyway since they will only being called by teacher and won’t get any shame in doing it. In the other hand, it won’t be a source of example to other students since it is privatelly discussed.

At the end of classroom activity, Frida asks Sharen and Kirana to discuss for a while.
“Sharen, Kirana! Let’s discuss for a while.” Kirana comes near to Frida, but Sharen acts like she does not hear someone who calls her name.
“Sharen! We only discuss around 5 to 10 minutes. If you do not want to discuss together here and right now, you may find out another group.” Frida shouts and little bit threatens Sharen. Sharen looks perforce to join with Frida and Kirana.
“OK! Let’s start our discussion. I want to ask you about the available time and venue for discussion. First, we talk about the time. When will we hold our discussion? When are you free, Sharen and Kirana?”
“I think, 2 days before the day of English subject we can gather together. So, we can hold discussion is not in a rush and prepare the result of discussion well.” Kirana said.
Frida asks, “How about you, Sharen? When are you free?”
Sharen answers, “Up to you, Frida as long as you are not disturbed my leisure time and weekend.”
“OK! We agree with Kirana’s idea. We will discuss 2 days before…..” Frida said and Kirana interrupts, “Don’t 2 days before the day of English subject! I want 1 day before the day of English subject. OK? Agree!” whereas Kirana and Frida do not give their approval.
“Well, how about the venue? Will we gather only at one of our members’ house? Will we gather at each our members’ house?” Frida asks.
“I do not want visit Kirana’s house! The house must be ugly and dirty. I don’t want to go there!” Sharen sees her cute nails.
“If you don’t want to go Kirana’s house, let us go to your house, Sharen!” Frida offers challenge option for Sharen.
“OK!” Sharen answers and goes leaving discussion suddenly.
“Thank you Kirana. You have provided your free time to determine our available time and venue. See you tomorrow!”
“You’re welcome, Frida!” Kirana answers.

The next several days……..
Frida and Kirana go to Sharen’s house. Finally, they arrive at Sharen’s house after they lost the route to Sharen’s house for 1 hour. Frida and Kirana admire Sharen’s house. The house is so big and extensive, decorates by luxurious stuffs, and has many servants, drivers and security guards.
Sharen’s house servant provides snack and soft drink, and also lunch for Frida and Kirana who is guesting in Sharen’s house. Sharen, Frida and Kirana start reading the material while enjoy a snack and soft drink which is provided. After that, the discussion is started about the reading material. And then, they make their own opinion about the reading material and also conclude their discussion into the result of group discussion. The tasks have done. Frida and Kirana are going to go back to their home. But, there is something less which must print first their result of group discussion and individual opinion in the form of hard copy.
“Sharen, can you print our result of group discussion?”  Frida asks.
“Save it to my flash disk.” Sharen answers and gives the flash disk.
“Sharen, may I print my result with your printer? I don’t have a printer in my home. It is difficult to find printer.” Kirana asks and Sharen gives her flash disk to Kirana.
“Our group discussion ends. We want to go home, Sharen. Thank you so much.” Frida and Kirana go home.

Sharen wants to print her group discussion and connects her flash disk to her laptop. She finds out the files and opens it. When she is going to print the files, suddenly Sharen has a new idea.
“Hm….. I always have a bad score. I also expect that I have a good score. But, how does it come?” Sharen asks and thinks what should she do.
“I think I just print the files faster.” Sharen says and types her name in the files.

Ibu Nitha have already come to the classroom. The class begins pray together. After that, she asks our tasks about the group discussion. Sharen gives the files to Ibu Nitha as soon as possible. Before that, Kirana asks to Sharen. “Sharen, may I see my file for a while?”
“Kirana, don’t you believe me? As we know, you have believed your result to me. You ask me to print your file.” Sharen answers with her sarcastic face.
“Sharen, I’m so sorry. I don’t plan to make you become feel angry like this. I’m so sorry, Sharen. Please forgive me” Kirana answers and asks her forgiveness.
But then, Sharen only goes to come forward to collecting the result of group discussion. Kirana is still patient and accept Sharen’s behavior to her. Kirana focuses to the teacher’s explanation. Time moves so fast and the classroom ends.

What is the next happen to Kirana and Sharen? Will they unite each other? What is actually Sharen’s idea? How about the result of all files that we have submitted to Ibu Nitha? Let’s wait the next story. So, stay tune on this blog ya…..!

Case Study: Well-Manage Classroom







There was a case when I did SEP (School Experience Program) in the last semester in elementary school. The teachers did not feel comfortable with one of students who always got up from the chair and stand up beside the wall. Although he did not make any noise or disturbed his friends, but the teachers could not focus on teaching in the class. So, the teachers just ignored what that student did and continued teaching. Without any respond or effort to pacify that student, the teachers kept on the teaching.  




1. Back to the goals of classrrom management to create a community of caring and trust, develop learner responsibility, maximize time and opportunity for learning.
2. Apply the principles of planning for classroom management:
    • developmental differences influences classroom management,
    • management and instruction are interdependent,
    • organization is essential for effective classroom management,
    • rules and procedures are the cornerstone of an effective management system,
    • the first days of school set the tone for the year.
